SIKESTON - As Cole County Judge Byron Kinder announced his decision on the Missouri State Teachers Association case, area school districts breathed a small sigh of relief. "I think this decision was the correct decision because the constitution does not permit the governor to withhold money from public schools to pay for desegregation," said Dr. Robert Buchanan, superintendent of Sikeston Public Schools. "The decision simply orders the governor to follow the constitution of the state of Missouri.
CHARLESTON - The Missouri State Highway and Transportation Department's proposed 6 cent gasoline tax increase could mean a 50 percent or an estimated $108,777 in benefits to Mississippi County over a five-year period, the County Commission was informed Thursday.
