SIKESTON - Mrs. Joseph P. Read held a party on the occasion of her son's fourth birthday. Attending Ivan's birthday celebration were Billy Lewis, Myra Propst, David Bailey, Margaret Hyslop, Norman Woods, Martha Seabaugh, Damon Deal and others.


SIKESTON - Mrs. C.D. Matthews Jr. had as dinner guests in her home on North Street Wednesday evening Mrs. J.E. Hetherington, Mr. and Mrs. E.P. Coleman Jr., Dr. and Mrs. T.C. McClure and Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Matthews.

SIKESTON - Sikeston's Little Theater group is again working like eager beavers to be ready to present its second play of the season, "No Time for Sergeants." This riotous comedy will be presented Feb. 8 and 9.

SIKESTON - City Council candidates John Chadd, Allen Crites, Mike Jensen and Marion Thompson square off in this week's primary election. Two candidates will emerge from that vote to run in the April 6 general election for city council.

SIKESTON - Tiffany Jane Kirk, a Sikeston resident, is one of about 5,500 Purdue University students who earned academic honors for the fall 1991 semester. Kirk was placed on the Dean's List and received semester honors. She is a freshman engineering student.


PORTAGEVILLE - The host Bulldogs led 23-9 after one quarter Tuesday and rolled up a 46-26 halftime lead to cruise by Clarkton, 80-58. In other action, Kelly overtook Bloomfield, 62-61; Oran won over Oak Ridge, 43-42; Bell City beat Chaffee, 55-52; and Gideon won over Risco, 89-68.
