SIKESTON - Lilly Elizabeth Heyde Yount, 86, formerly of Jackson and a resident of Sikeston, died at 7:20 a.m. February 6, 2002, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Born Sept. 5, 1915, at Jackson, Mo., daughter of the late William Albert and Tom Ella McCombs Heyde Sr., she attended school in Jackson and was valedictorian of her senior class.

She graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau with a degree in secondary education, majoring in history and mathematics, and was a charter member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority in college. She did graduate work at the University of Wisconsin. A contemporary history teacher at Sikeston High School, she had also taught in Morehouse, Caruthersville and Poplar Bluff. She was a Girl Scout leader and served on the Cotton Boll Girl Scout Council. A charter member and past president of Chapter HB of PEO Sisterhood and member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, she was a lifelong Methodist and active member of the First United Methodist Church in Sikeston.

She married John Henry Yount Jr. on June 24, 1942, in Jackson, Mo. He survives of the home in Sikeston.

Also surviving are two daughters, Jane Ella Potashnick and Lilly Heyde Yount II, both of Sikeston; two grandchildren, Heyde Elizabeth Potashnick of Sikeston and John Douglas Potashnick of Vail, Colo.; one nephew, William A. Heyde III of Warson Woods, Mo.; and one niece, Dr. Adeliade Heyde Parsons of Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Preceding her in death were one brother, William Albert Heyde Jr.; one grandson, Nicholas Marshall Potashnick; and one nephew, Col. Thomas McCombs Heyde.

Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2002, at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Sikeston with the Rev. William F. Koch and the Rev. Sandra Schaller officiating.

Entombment will follow in the Sikeston City Mausoleum.
