Patrick Rolwing

CHARLESTON -- Patrick Newcum Rolwing, 77, died Nov. 4, 2007, at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Born Oct. 6, 1930, at the Texas Bend community in Mississippi County, son of the late Otto Joseph and Ethel Newcum Rolwing, he attended the University of Missouri-Columbia and what is now Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau following his service in the U.S. Army. He farmed in the Texas Bend, Thompson Bend, Drinkwater Sewer and Dirk communities in Mississippi County; in Pulaski County (Ill.); and in Bolivar County (Miss.) raising grain, cotton and cattle. An active member of St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston, he was was an active 4th degree and past grand knight in the Knights of Columbus; a member and past president of the St. Henry Parish Council; and was on the first Diocesan Council during the time in which Cardinal Law was the bishop. He was also an active cubmaster and Boy Scout leader for several years.

On Feb. 11, 1956, he married Joan Bishop, who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two sons and one daughter-in-law, Tim and Holly Rolwing of Charleston and Robert B. Rolwing of Memphis, Tenn.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Walter Crenshaw III of La Grange, Tenn., and Susan and Chris Dugan of Wyatt; two brothers, Norbert Rolwing and Mark Rolwing of Charleston; two sisters, Margaret Stricker of the Lusk Chapel community in Scott County and Rosemary Orr of Kirkwood; and two granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by one brother, John Francis Rolwing; and two sisters, Maj. Miriam Rolwing, U.S.A.F., and Sr. Helen Rolwing, O.S.U.

Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where parish prayers will be said at 7:30 p.m. with the Rev. Scott Sunnenberg officiating.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Henry Catholic Church in Charleston with Monsignor Richard Rolwing as celebrant.

Burial will follow in the Texas Bend Cemetery near Charleston.

Pallbearers will be: Jim Martin, Larry Lasater, Ron Rolwing, Jim Rolwing, Sam Orr and Carl Stricker.
