Sikeston Sharks tie for fourth place in conference swim championships

JACKSON - The Sikeston Sharks swim team competed in its final meet of the season on Saturday in Jackson where the Southeast Missouri Swim Conference Championships were held.

There were 385 swimmers at the meet with 11 teams.

Kennett won first place with 709 points. Sikeston tied for fourth with 207 points.

Sikeston's Morgan Fraser won the Conference High Point Trophy in the 9-10 girls division with three first place finishes. She won the 50 meter freestyle, 50 meter backstroke and 50 meter breast stroke. Her times of 42.13 in the back and 43.49 in the breast set new conference records.

Sikeston's 11-12 freestyle relay, comprised of Jake Pewitt, Gratten Allen, Abdullah Said and Mark Fraser, set a new Sikeston team record in the 200 meter free relay.

The foursome finished with a time of 2:41.55 to take third place.

Allen placed third in the 50 meter breast stroke in the 11-12 boys division. He also took fifth and sixth in the 50 backstroke and the 200 individual medley respectively.

Amanda Allen had two fourth place finishes in the 50 breast stroke and the 50 butterfly in the 9-10 girls division. She also pointed in the 100 meter individual medley with a fifth place finish.

Mark Fraser placed fourth in the 50 meter freestyle, 100 meter freestyle and 200 meter individual medley.

Brady Culver placed fourth in the 100 meter freestyle in the 9-10 boys division. He also received one point for his seventh place finish in the 50 freestyle.

Mary Anne Kendig placed sixth in the 50 butterfly in the 9-10 girls division. She also placed seventh in both the 50 breast stroke and 100 individual medley.

Aidan Marshall placed seventh in the 100 meter breast stroke in the 13-14 girls division.

Lauren Medley placed third in the 100 meter breast stroke in the 15-18 girls division. She also placed sixth in the 100 butterfly and seventh in the 200 individual medley.

Victoria Moy placed fourth in the 100 meter butterfly in the 13-14 girls division. She also placed fifth in both the 100 breast stroke and the 200 individual medley.

In the 11-12 boys division, Jake Pewitt placed fourth in the 50 breast stroke and fifth in the 50 butterfly.

Jessica Pierce placed fifth in the 100 breast stroke in the 15-18 girls division.

Elizabeth Smith placed fourth in the 100 individual medley in the 8-and-under girls division.

Natalie Stevens placed third in both the 25 meter back stroke and the 50 freestyle in the 8-and-under girls division.

In the relay events, all but three of Sikeston's 16 teams entered finished in the top six.

Five of Sikeston's teams finished in the top three, including the aforementioned boys team that set a new team record.

The rest were: The boys 11-12 200 medley team of Allen, Pewitt, Fraser and Said. The girls 15-18 200 medley team of Pierce, Medley, Moy and Marshall. The girls 8-and-under 100 freestyle team of Smith, Morgan Cashmer, Annie Pewitt and Stevens. The girls 9-10 100 medley of Fraser, Amanda Allen, Kendig and Ashton Young.
