EAST PRAIRIE - Gladys Mae Marks Burney, 74, died at 4:55 p.m. April 12, 2005, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born Jan. 28, 1931, at Lawrenceburg, Tenn., daughter of the late Clarence Arthur Marks and Cleeoria Flatt Marks Motley, she lived most of her life in Mississippi County and worked at the Hogan's Farm Center in the Dorena community for years. She attended the First General Baptist Church in East Prairie.

On Oct. 14, 1946, in Tiptonville, Tenn., she married Edward "Bug" Burney Jr. who preceded her in death on Aug. 20, 1993.

Two brothers, Arthur Marks and Willie Marks, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include: two brothers, Malcolm Marks and E.J. Marks of East Prairie; three sisters, Wyvon Wallace and Opal Sanders of East Prairie and Marie Jones of Tiptonville; and one grandson and one great-grandson.

Visitation is scheduled for 6 p.m. today at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday with Dale Billingsley officiating.

Burial will follow in the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Richard Wallace II, Steven Ray, Ronnie and Kem Marks and Clayton and Rex Burney.
