Lawrence Jenkins

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Retired U.S. Naval Commander Lawrence Jacob Jenkins, formerly of Sikeston, Mo., died Sept. 30, 2004, at his home in San Antonio.

Born June 23, 1936, in St. Louis to the late Esther and Lawrence Jenkins, he served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years and was commanding officer of the Naval Toxicology Unit at the time of his retirement.

On June 5, 1960, he married the former Mary Ellen Magruder of New Madrid, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lance and Loretta Jenkins of Denver, Colo., and Mark Jenkins of San Antonio; one daughter and son-in-law, Lee-Anne and J.P. Van Tilburg of Weslaco, Texas; one brother, Dan Jenkins of Naples, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Louise Magruder of Germantown, Md.; a cousin, Pauline Hicks of Sikeston; and three grandchildren.

Burial was in Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery at San Antonio.
