Looking Back in Time at Sept. 29

SIKESTON - Complimentary ticket from the Sikeston Standard will admit Dr. and Mrs. B.L. McMullin to the Malone Theater Tuesday to see "Two Tickets to London."

SIKESTON - Miss Leslie Carol Schuchart, 4-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Schuchart, and Master Eugene Cox, 4-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Travis Cox, won their crowns in the King and Queen Cotton Top Contest, the traditional opening feature of the annual American Legion Cotton Carnival.

SIKESTON - Lori Jackson, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Jackson, was crowned Miss Sikeston Friday night in conjunction with the 39th Annual American Legion Cotton Carnival.


CHARLESTON - Tanna Parish, Bill Shuler and Layton Pickard were appointed as the city's representatives on the newly created Commercial and Industrial Development Commission at Tuesday's special session city council meeting.

HAYTI HEIGHTS - For the second time in three years, the city hall in this tiny Missouri Bootheel town has burned down. Mayor David Humes said the building is a total loss and all city records were lost. Authorities had not yet determined the cause of the blaze, which occurred early Wednesday.


SIKESTON - New legislation, which strengthens penalties of those convicted for driving under the influence of alcohol, was the main topic for about 125 law enforcement officials attending a seminar Wednesday at the Sikeston Holiday Inn. The new legislation will go into effect Sept. 28.
