SIKESTON - Harland Gilbert Maxwell, 91, of Sikeston, Mo. passed away at his home on June 14, 2005 at 12:25 p.m.

He was born on April 29, 1914 in Bertrand, Mo., son of the late Walter and Nettie Holland Maxwell.

On April 12, 1941, he was married to Gladys Stallings, who preceded him in death on Nov. 26, 2000.

He was a farmer in the Dogwood area, and later worked as a real estate developer and investor. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Sikeston, and served as an honorary Colonel on the staff of Governor Cliff Finch, of the state of Mississippi.

Survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Myrna and John A. Johnson of Sikeston; one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Janie Maxwell of East Prairie, Mo. Three grandchildren, Jeff Johnson and Jennifer Johnson Wells of Memphis, Tenn., and Keith Maxwell of East Prairie, Mo., along with six great-

grandchildren.

Two sisters, Edna Heath and Blanche Blackman of East Prairie, Mo., and his twin brother Leland Maxwell of Sikeston also survive him.

On July 12, 2003 he was married to Clara Presson, who survives of the home along with one stepdaughter, Janelda Fish of Dewitt, Mich.

One sister, Norma Hurley of Sikeston, and one brother, Ray Maxwell, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston, Mo., Wednesday evening from 5 to 8 p.m., where funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. The Rev. Leland Butler, former pastor of Dogwood Methodist Church, will officiate.

Pallbearers will be: Jeff Johnson, Keith Maxwell, Murray Wells, Maxie Blackman, Bob Maxwell and Bill Maxwell.

Honorary pallbearers will be: P.J. Ponder, Bob Miller, Sam Harbin, Ralph Armour, Joe Silverthorn, Roger Sherman, Jack Hartzog and Ralph Boyer.
