VNA offers home medical equipment
KENNETT - The Visiting Nurse Association of Southeast Missouri is growing again.
VNA Home Medical Equipment opened June 18 at 1112 S. Bypass in Kennett. New medical equipment, oxygen and diabetic supplies are available along with local staff. Heading up the team is Tonya Atchison as director with Andrea Wright serving as respiratory therapist. A nurse will be available to assist patients and their families as well.

SIKESTON - Billy Arthur was promoted to shipping coordinator for DeWitt Co. in January.
Employed with DeWitt since February 1996, Arthur worked first as a packager/grommet machine operator in the Sewing Department. In 1997, he was transferred to the UPS/Packaging Area, where he has maintained all arrivals on packages and departures of the plant.
As shipping coordinator, Arthur is responsible for all UPS/FEDEX shipments, manages third party warehouse and takes care of overages, shortages and damages along with filing freight claims.
SIKESTON - Patriot Homes has received the Manufactured Housing Institute's Annual National Industry Award for "Production Manufactured Home Under 1,400 Square Feet." The Award was presented during the 2003 National Congress and Expo for Manufactured and Modular Housing in Las Vegas.

SIKESTON - The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners has presented the AANP State Award for Excellence to Diane Jackson of Sikeston. Jackson works for MedStop One in Cape Girardeau.
The AANP State Award serves to recognize nurse practitioners demonstrating excellence in their areas of practice. With the award, Jackson received a complimentary one-year membership to the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Also as a recipient of this award, Jackson is invited to attend the Annual National Conference in Anaheim, Calif.
Shelter Insurance honors agent
CHARLESTON - Linda Walker, Shelter Insurance Companies agent in Charleston, was honored as one of the company's top agents based on overall agency operations.
Walker received a plaque from the firm during the recent Conference of Champions.
Shelter Insurance Companies is a mutual multiple-lines company with approximately 1,400 licensed agents in 13 midwestern and southern states.
MINNEAPOLIS - U.S. Bank N.A., is one of the top agricultural lenders in the United States, ranked by total farm loans. The findings, published in Ag Lender and in the American Bankers Association's Journal of Agricultural Lending, are ranked according to information provided on call and income reports to the Federal Reserve System for the quarter that ended Dec. 31.
In the rankings for 2002, Ag Lender and the Journal of the Agricultural Lending state that U.S. Bank had more than $2 billion in total agricultural loans. Of that, there are over $1.3 billion in agricultural production, livestock and agribusiness loans and nearly $728 million in farmland loans.
"This ranking shows that U.S. Bank is a dominant player in the agricultural lending industry," said John Elmore, executive vice president of the community banking division at U.S. Bank. NASHVILLE - As a service to its readers, the Nashville Post published the "Best Lawyers in Nashville 2003, a guide listing the top 100 lawyers in 32 categories of legal practice.
Included in the listing was Charleston, Mo., native Orville Almon. Almon was listed among the best attorneys in the entertainment field.
A member of the firm Zumwalt, Almon & Hayes, the Nashville Post called Almon "exceptionally talented and experienced." While noting the Southeast Missouri native was neither high profile or flashy, the article described him as having a tight relationship with record label staffers who draft agreements. It added that he is "known for being honest to the point of letting other sides know of mistakes in their drafts."
The son of Mavis Almon of Charleston, Almon served as a captain in the U.S. Army. He is a member of the Country Music Association.
CAPE GIRARDEAU - Scott Berry of Ames True Temper in Bernie was recently elected vice chairman of the Workforce Investment Board of Southeast Missouri (WIB) at the June meeting held in Cape Girardeau. Berry and Jeff Holloway of Puxico are the only two Stoddard County private sector representatives currently serving on the board.
Officers serve for two-year terms. Don Riggle of the Mingo Job Corps at Puxico is a public sector member and Larry Swindle, who is affiliated with the McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett, was elected chairman. Other officers elected to take office July 1 were: Barbara Robinson of Malden, treasurer; Jane Ellen Lazenby of Caruthersville, secretary; and attorney Steve Gray of Marble Hill, parliamentarian.
The WIB is a private, non-profit corporation which oversees federally-funded and state-funded job training programs in 13 counties. The organization was founded under the auspices of the Workforce Investment Act of 1998. Cochran joins local law firm
SIKESTON - Amanda D. Cochran of Sikeston has accepted a position with the Blanton, Rice, Sidwell, Nickell and Cozean Law Firm.
A May 10 graduate from Southern Illinois University School of Law, Cochran received a juris doctor degree. She is a 1991 graduate of Thomas W. Kelly High School and received her bachelor of arts degree in 1995 from Murray State where she majored in criminal justice.
Cochran is the daughter of Larry and Gail Cooper and the granddaughter of Virginia Beggs of Sikeston. She and her husband, Stephen, have a 3-year-old daughter, Hannah
Two join staff at Alliance Bank
SIKESTON - J. Michael Pobst and Kimberly Hackworth have joined the staff of Alliance Bank, according to Bryan E. Pogue, president and chief executive office of Alliance Bank of Cape Girardeau.
Pobst is the community president over the Sikeston facility while Hackworth will serve as the bank's administrative assistant.
Pobst has over 26 years of banking experience, having served most recently as the community bank president at the local Union Planters Bank. He and his wife, Lisa, and son, Stephen, reside in Sikeston.
"I am very excited to join the Alliance Banking group," said Pobst. "They are the type of people I want to be associated with and receiving the opportunity to get back to the community banking atmosphere is very important to me and to my customers. Being able to give local answers to local questions makes a lot more sense than having to rely on someone several miles away to make those day-to-day decisions."
Hackworth began her banking career with Capital Bank in 1999 and continued that service to the present for Union Planters Bank.
