SIKESTON - R.D. Sorrells, former band instructor at Sikeston High School, has written words and music to a new song called "Johnny Went," which was published recently. Sorrells was associated with the local school from 1937-40. He is now a special arranger with the Rader Music Bureau in St. Louis in addition to his songwriting chores.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Auxiliary Police unit was reorganized in a meeting held Monday night at the police station, with Jay Krech elected as commander.

NEW MADRID - Members of the Anderson-Tully Corporation, the Missouri Conservation Department and citizens of New Madrid, met at the Sharp facility Wednesday to formally announce the purchase of Donaldson Point State Forest. The forest has been owned by Anderson-Tully and the Sportsmen Club has been leasing the land. On Wednesday, Dick Reed of East Prairie, a commissioner with the Conservation Department, presented a check for $3.8 million on behalf of that department to purchase the land.

SIKESTON - The Eagles Auxiliary 3319 will host a dinner beginning at 5 p.m. Friday at the Eagles Lodge. The cost of $6 for adults and $3 for children ages 12 and under will provide a meal of fried chicken, beef stroganoff, mashed potatoes, vegetables, salad, dessert, and coffee or tea. Members and guests are invited to attend.

NEW MADRID - The Dixie Players will present "Merry Christmas, Dixie Style," on Dec. 3 at the Dixie Theater in New Madrid. This show, including a mixture of Christmas, country and pop music, will feature many of the regular performers, along with some new ones.
