Roy Vandiver

MALDEN - Roy Lee Vandiver, 90, died April 13, 2004, at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter.

Born Sept. 2, 1913, at New Madrid, son of the late William Robert and Retha Matilda Shelcatt Vandiver, he was a member of the Bernie General Baptist Church and had farmed in the Bernie area.

On July 17, 1937, at Cardville, he married Alma Lee Taylor who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son, Don Vandiver of Bushnell, Ill.; four daughters, Retha Clark of Marion, Ky., Jean Balsmeier of Hollister, Martha Kajdzik of Kent, Wash., and Alice Warren of Granite City, Ill.; one sister, Maude Duncan of St. Louis; and 27 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sons, Tom Vandiver, William Earl Vandiver and Ronnie Vandiver; and three brothers, Orvil Vandiver, James Vandiver and Ernest Vandiver.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie where services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Phil Warren will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.
