PADUCAH, Ky. -- John Thomas Addis, 82, formerly of Sikeston, Mo., died at 4:01 a.m. March 22, 2008, at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah.

Born Feb. 7, 1926, at Southard, Okla., to the late Elmer Stanton and Jennie Harris Addis, he served in the U.S. Navy for 23 years on active duty from March 13, 1943, until Aug. 1, 1966, in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He retired as a master chief petty officer and had served on the USS Hunley, USS Intrepid, USS Mission Bay and the USS Vermillion aircraft carries during his military career.

He was a licensed Assembly of God minister and had been a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Sikeston, the Bird's Corner Assembly of God Church and was a current member of Victory Assembly of God Church in Paducah. He had worked for four years at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Barkley Dam, had owned Addis Refrigeration Co. in Benton for 16 years and Addis Refrigeration is Sikeston for 22 years.

On Nov. 24, 1948, in Norfolk, Va., he married Jessie Elizabeth Bright who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two sons and a daughter-in-law, Gordon Addis of Paducah and Tim and Becky Addis of Benton; one daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and J. Thomas Logsdon of Paducah; two grandsons, Michael Addis of Hardin and Eric Winstead of Paducah; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. today at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Milton Poole of Humble, Texas, former pastor of the First Assembly of God Church in Sikeston, will officiate. He will be assisted by the Rev. Gary DeRossett, pastor of Victory Assembly of God Church in Paducah.

Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.

Pallbearers will be: Bob Brinkley, Ed Pratt, Allen Basham, Ben Tippett, Russ Whitten and Rick Green.

Honorary pallbearer will be Steven Cartwright.
