Pixley set to play volleyball at TRCC
DEXTER - A second volleyball standout at Dexter High School has signed a letter of intent to play next season at Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff.
Amanda Pixley will join fellow Lady Bearcat Mallory Kennedy at Three Rivers. Pixley played setter for Dexter and was an excellent player all three years under volleyball coach Kris Vandeven.
Pixley earned numerous awards throughout her high school career. Pixley earned first team honors this season for All-Region, All-District and All-
Conference.
Dexter named Pixley their setter of the year three years in a row and was a three-time selection to the Stoddard County Conference All-Tournament team.
Capping off a stellar career, Pixley was named by B.A. Sports as setter and player of the year.
Pixley's choice of college is as simple as size and location.
"I wanted to go to a place where I would play and also be close to home," said Pixley, "so that my mom and everybody can come watch me. Three Rivers is a perfect fit because of the size of the campus. It is a smaller school and the class size will be manageable, kind of like at my hometown."
Pixley credits her coach and parents for giving her a good push towards a successful volleyball career.
"Coach Vandeven really pushed me to be my best and that was a big motivator for me," said Pixley. "However, I give a lot of credit to my mom and dad (Carla and Garrett Pixley) for always believing in me and being there in the good and bad times. It is an honor to play for Three Rivers and to play at the next level. But my parents deserve a lot of the credit for my success and for that I am grateful."
Three Rivers will have a Dexter feel with Pixley and Kennedy on the squad. As it so happens, both are good friends off the court.
"We are best friends and we will room together at college," said Pixley. "It will make it easier for us to adjust to higher competition and we can just be there for each other if needed."
Pixley may see some time on the floor for the Lady Raiders, as Three Rivers incorporates a two-setter system that will benefit Pixley.
"I expect to see some playing time at Three Rivers," said Pixley. "They have a setter coming back next year, but they run a 6-2 set and that should allow me to see some time. I just want to do my best and contribute any way possible. I am really excited and at the same time apprehensive about the upcoming season. I have some nerves but with my parents and Mallory giving me support, I will do all right."
