Sikeston meth lab seized

SIKESTON - A partial meth lab was seized between midnight and 1 a.m. Saturday at a residence on Harding Street in Sikeston. According to a news release from Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter, Scott County detectives were conducting a surveillance on the residence. The suspect left and did not return to the residence. It is speculated that the suspect went to get the items he needed to to finish the lab when he was apparently arrested in another county on unknown charges.

Located at the residence were meth lab components including soaking ephedrine pills, lithium batteries and an incomplete chemical generator. The lab was in a shed outside the residence in plain view of the street. Walter said there is no one in custody at this time, since the surveillance was interrupted, but that charges may be filed at a later date.

Walter said he received a tip on the location through the department's new tip line. Taking immediate action on the information resulted in illegal drugs from reaching the street. "It is this type of cooperation between the public and law enforcement that is going to make the difference in the constant struggle to remove drugs from the streets of Scott County," Walter said in the release.
