SIKESTON - The foundation for an additional to the Crenshaw Distributing Co. building on Highway 61 has been poured.


SIKESTON - Nelson Neumeyer, who has been assistant manager of the Carbondale Store, is now the new manager of the Cut-Rate Department Store in Sikeston.

SIKESTON - Junior Women's Club members will meet to pack sacks for servicemen in Vietnam. The club is sending 50 packages to servicemen in cooperation with the Red Cross.

NEW MADRID - Gov. John Ashcroft made stops in New Madrid County and Sikeston Monday during his Buy Missouri tour which included 19 communities in the state. During a tour of Noranda, Ashcroft viewed the production of extruding rods from molten alumina. While in Sikeston, he visited Hedrick Concrete Products Corporation where he observed the manufacturing of concrete blocks, concrete ready mix and other products. His next stop was at Potlatch Corporation, where he praised the local manufacturers for being good representatives of Missouri productivity.


SIKESTON - Brenda Strebler of Sikeston received a check for $5,000, which she won recently in the Missouri Lottery game. She received her winning ticket at the Bottle Shop and plans to use the money when she visits Las Vegas.

CHARLESTON - Mississippi County Sheriff Larry E. Turley received a Meritorious Award from the U.S. Department of Justice, Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force, West Central Region, and the Law Enforcement Coordinating Committee, Eastern Missouri. The award, also presented to Michael Price, UAUSA, U.S. Attorney's Office, and Larry Ferrell, AUSA U.S. Attorney's Office, was in recognition for participation in "Operation Speed Bump."


SIKESTON - Sikeston's volleyball squad stuffed another win in their valise on Monday night, conquering Cape Central's Lady Tigers in two sets at the Field House, 15-2, 16-14. "Our kill percentage has got to come up," said Sikeston coach Janie Merrick. "The kill and the error numbers need to be as far apart as they can be."
