SIKESTON -- Brenda Brewer, receptionist with SEMO Health Network, is employee of the month for January.
Brewer joined SEMO Health Network in Sikeston, in June 2005. SEMO Health Network is a federally qualified health center providing comprehensive quality primary health care.
Stating she loves her job because she gets to meet many different people, Brewer added, she loves helping the patients and her co-workers are wonderful to work with. "I love everything about my job," she said.
Brewer is married with three children, Melissa, Danny and Joey, and five grandchildren.
SIKESTON - Travis Weiss, a certified athletic trainer, is now working with the Health Facilities Rehab's SET program and with area high school athletic programs.
A graduate of Southeast Missouri State University with a bachelor of science degree in health management, athletic training option, Weiss completed a two-month internship at the Keith Kleven Physical Therapy Institute in Las Vegas, Nev., a nationally known facility used by such athletes as Tiger Woods and Mark O'Meara.
Through his professional career he has worked with a number of professional athletes including Jerry Rouse, a World Series pitcher, formerly with the Los Angeles Dodgers; Layla Ali, a professional boxer and the daughter of Mohammed Ali; Sunny Oh, a member of the Ladies Professional Golf Association; and several Ultimate Fighting Championship athletes. Also he has worked with members of the men's and women's basketball team, track team and gymnastics team at SEMO University as well as various teams at Jackson High School.
NEW MADRID - The Mix, a teen dance club, opened March 4 to provide Saturday night entertainment for area young people ages 15-18. Located in the Knights of Columbus building in the Villa Shopping Center on Dawson Road, the club features a live disc jockey along with local performers. Refreshments are available. The club is open from 7 - 11 p.m. each Saturday, according to owner Mark Lamont.
