SIKESTON - V.T. Crowe announces he has bought the Pop Inn from Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Brooks and Brooks' Service Station from Clifford Campbell and will own and operate the service station until one of his sons is released from the service.

BENTON - Mrs. Warren E. Hearnes, wife of Missouri's governor, cut a ribbon to officially open the Scott-Mississippi County Cerebral Palsy Center yesterday. More than 100 gathered on the courthouse lawn for the proceedings.

SIKESTON - Lisa Lane said she never wants a chance to save another life. The horror, the 17-year-old said, of a person's life depending on her own skills is all most too much to think about. Lisa may have succeeded in saving a second life when she administered mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on a woman who had fainted during a church service at St. John Baptist Church Sunday. It took four attempts at resuscitation before Mattie Riggs breathed again. Two years before, Robert Kirk, known as Mr. Buddy to the church members, had been seated when he complained of chest pain. Lisa provided mouth-to-mouth then.

NEW MADRID - Rumors of unsafe water should be put to rest once and for all with the completion of independent lab tests. At least, that is the expectation of William Kosky, water superintendent for the City of New Madrid. A report from Analytical Services Inc. gave the water samples supplied from the community with the assistance of the Department of Natural Resources, a crystal clear evaluation.
