Sikeston performs well in junior high relays

SIKESTON -- The Sikeston boys and girls eighth grade track and field teams hosted the Sikeston Junior High Relays on Thursday at Sikeston Public Schools Stadium.

Although team points were not kept, both teams had some standout performances against 10 different teams.

On the boys side, Sikeston took first place in the 4 x 200 meter relay and the long jump relay.

The 4 x 200 team consisted of Anthony Oglesby, Vince Howard, Eli Jackson and Dominic Fondon.

The long jump relay team was led by Fondon, Howard and Jackson.

The boys also took second place in the sprint medley with Tyrone Bateman, Dwayne Harris, Jarian Wims and Demetrius Jackson running.

The Bulldogs also took second place in the high jump relay with Kelvin Davis, Harris and Wims performing.

Thunderstorms rolled in and prevented the final race of the day, the 4 x 400 meter relay.

On the girls side, Sikeston had first place finishes in the 4 x 100 meter relay, the 4 x 200 meter relay and the long jump relay.

The 4 x 100 team was run by Mycah Johnson, Jordan Rodgers, April Allen and Michel'le Flye.

The 4 x 200 team was run by Makeshia Jackson, Rodgers, Allen and Flye.

The long jump relay was led by Olivia Burrows, Jackson, and Kanesha Hunt.

The girls also got a second place finish in the sprint medley, which was run by Allen, Rodgers, Flye and Tiah Adkinson.

They took second in the hurdle relay led by Shakwante Johnson, Alexia Redd, Brittany Mallory and Andrea Coleman.

The pole vault relay took second place behind Alexia Williams, Chelsea Williams and Camery Davis.

The Sikeston ninth grade boys also competed but Scott City provided the only competition. Sikeston won eight of the 11 events against the Rams.

Sikeston's junior high team will compete in the Cape Invitational on Wednesday and the Jackson Invitational next Saturday.
