Your view: Support appreciated

Monday, June 6, 2005

It is the end of another fabulous school year. I would like to take this opportunity to express sincere gratitude for all the support from the community and our parents. There have been many times throughout the school year when Lee Hunter had to reach out to the community and parents to help us with our activities we provide for our students. Because of you, we have had a successful year with Red Ribbon Week, Kindness Week, Career Day, Field Day, Character Education, Reading Counts, MAP Rally and incentives throughout the year for our students to achieve higher success with their learning experiences.

A special thanks to surrounding businesses that have provided many donations throughout the year for our special activities. We have also had local churches provide clothing for our children at Lee Hunter who needed these items in emergencies. Thank you for providing clothes and school supplies for our kids. There was one occasion where we needed a red wagon to decorate for our Red Ribbon Wagon Parade and a local church reached out to us and came to our rescue. In turn we walked through their parking lot so their preschool children could watch as we passed. To respect your wishes of privacy, specific names of businesses and churches are not listed. We thank you for all you have done for our school.

I would like to thank Gary Howard, Melissa Belk, Brenda Freed, Ernie Moxley and Blake DeWitt for providing interesting material, information and fun activities for our students on Red Ribbon Week. Special thanks to Carol Lewis and the high school cheerleaders for making our MAP Rally a huge success. Carol, we could not have done it without you. Thanks for everything! After the MAP Rally, many teachers overheard students state, "I'm going to do my best on that test!" Thank you to Jim McClellan, Carla Baker Finnell, Sharon Bryant, Dr. Al-Kilani, Teresa Houchin, Harry Howard, Fred Thatch, Kim Wheeler and Dan Norton for helping with our Career Day. You provided great information for our students and allowed for interaction.

For Kindness Week, we had a great party with pizza, chips, candy bars and drinks for two children from each class who won the award for performing random acts of kindness. Field Day was a success thanks to all the parents and volunteers who came and shared the day with us. Let's not forget the parents who could not be with us in body but who were with us in heart and also provided snack items for our fun filled day.

If I have forgotten to mention someone, I apologize. If I have, you know in your heart who you are and this is a special thanks to you.

You, as parents and the community are commended for your hard work and dedication to your children. You take time out of your busy lives to make a difference with your children. They may not recall those times now, but later in life your children will look back and give thanks to have parents like you. The more time you spend with your children, the more they benefit in their education and life in general, as you already realize.

Thank you for your ongoing support throughout the years and we look forward to seeing you next year. Have a great summer!

Crystal Morrow,

Lee Hunter Elementary
