SJHS teams sweep Cape Central for second time

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Sikeston 8th and 9th grade basketball teams swept the Cape Central Junior High teams for the second time this season on Thursday night in Cape Girardeau.

Sikeston's 9th grade team defeated the Tigers freshman team 53-26 to improve to 6-1 on the season.

The 8th grade team continued its undefeated season with a 49-34 win against Cape Central's 8th graders, improving to 6-0 on the season.

In the 9th grade game, Sikeston jumped out to a 16-4 first quarter lead and led 28-10 at the half.

They extended the lead to 42-17 heading into the fourth quarter.

Dominic Fondon, a 6-foot-5 center, nearly out-scored Cape Central by himself, scoring 22 points on the night.

Adrian Dixon and Richard Andrews each had eight points on the night. Demetrious Jackson and Jacob Cole followed up with four points apiece. Jake Pratcher, Robert Brooks and Courvirseya Strickland all had two points and Caleb Davidson added one point.

In the 8th grade game, Sikeston jumped out to a 20-10 first quarter lead and never looked back. They extended the lead to 34-12 by halftime and were never challenged the rest of the way.

Eli Jackson led the Bulldogs with nine points. Jaqualin Wiggins and Niquavious Dixon followed up with seven points each.

Dwayne Harris and Chris Benford had five points each and Jarian Wims added four points.
