Three men are injured following late night argument

SIKESTON - A Sikeston man is awaiting arraignment today in connection with a Friday shooting which injured three persons.

Kevin King, 25, is charged with three counts of first degree assault, three counts of armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. He is being held in the Scott County Jail in lieu of $250,000 cash-only bond.

The charges stem from a shooting at 11:55 p.m. Friday. According to a news release from the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, officers responded to the 100 block of Luther after hearing several gunshots in the area. Upon arrival, the officers saw a large group of people leaving a club known as "The Spot."

At the scene, officers found Daron Robinson, 34, of Sikeston who had injuries to his left arm and abdomen and Rodney Jones, 22, of Blytheville, Ark., who was shot in the back.

While interviewing these two victims at Missouri Delta Medical Center, officers became aware of a third victim, Melvin Applewhite, 22, of Sikeston. Applewhite was shot in the left thigh.

According to the DPS report, an argument occurred between King and Jones outside The Spot. "During this confrontation, Mr. King pulled a pistol from his clothing. Mr Robinson said he tried to talk Mr. King into putting the weapon away, when Mr. King began shooting" toward the three victims, according to the news release.

King fled the area following the shooting but was located by DPS less than two hours after the incident.

Officers with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety are continuing their investigation into the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact CrimeStoppers at 573-471-1500. All information will remain confidential.
