SIKESTON - Roscoe Leon Smith, 77, died March 9, 2006, at his home.

Born Oct. 1, 1928, in Washington County, Ind., son of the late Henry Winfield and Margaret Elizabeth Nelson Smith, he was a 1946 graduate of Washington High School. He was retired from the Washington Fire Department after 20 years and had also been a farmer and builder. He had lived in Colorado from 1979 to 1994, returning to Washington in 1994 before moving to Sikeston in July 2003. A member of First Church of God in Washington, Ind. and a current member of Tanner Street Church of God in Sikeston, he did mission work in the Philippines and Kenya, Africa.

On June 4, 1948, he married Wanda Jeanette Wininger Smith, who survives of the home in Sikeston.

Other survivors include: three daughters and two sons-in-law, Rita and Barry Chessor of Sikeston, Dena and Kevin Sipe of Frankton, Ind., and Sheryl Armstrong of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Randy Smith of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Marty and Janet Smith of Sapulpa, Okla.; two sisters, Geneva Lee of Thomasville, N.C., and Mildred Lemon of Washington, Ind.; six grandchildren, Amy Chessor, Megan Armstrong, A.J. Armstrong, Jordan Sipe, Allison Sipe and Beki Warren and her husband, Dave; and three great-grandsons.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Brad Armstrong; one sister, Gladys Beck; and five brothers, Charles Smith, Orville Smith, Glenn Smith, Lewis Smith and John Smith.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Gill Funeral Home in Washington, Ind., where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday.

Burial will follow in the Sugarland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Washington.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Tanner Street Church of God in Sikeston.
