Your view: Disatisfied customer

Thursday, March 20, 2008

Recently my wife and I visited Sikeston to shop and spend the night. We got a room at the Days Inn. I pastor a Baptist Church in Halls, Tenn., and it has always been my practice to place a small magnetic Scripture sign on the door of our room. I have been doing this for many years and at several other motels around the country, and have NEVER had anyone complain or be offended.

After we had checked in, we received a call from the front desk that we would have to REMOVE THE SCRIPTURE SIGN from out motel room door. I was both shocked and saddened that the people of our country seem so intent on removing God from every area of our life. I love America, but I believe we are now suffering the consequences of a nation who has turned its back on God. "The wicked shall be turned into Hell, and all the nations that forget God." (Psalms 9:17).

I decided that if I could not put up God's name on the door of my room that I would not stay. After agreeing to allow me a refund for our room, they later denied my request. We packed up and went home. This might seem like a small issue to some folks, but if we Christians don't take a stand, we will soon lose our freedom and our country. "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord." (Psalms 33:12).

Sincerely,

Jerry Hickson, Halls, Tenn.

"We did ask him to take the sign down on the outside of the door -- not on the inside," said Shela Mays, assistant manager. "On the inside he can put what he wants on the door, but not on the outside. We had customers that came up to us and said things about it so we asked him to take it off."

Mays said they are not against Christianity.

"We do have free gospel tracts in the lobby," she said. "There's a church in town that keeps them filled up all the time. We are not trying to run anybody at all off. We do not discriminate against anybody. We have all sorts of different people that work here, all sorts of races and religions."
