SIKESTON - In Sikeston High School news, the honor and proficiency rolls have been compiled for the semester.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Junior Chamber of Commerce cleared $600 Monday toward the dog project as the Jaycees presented their Jaycee Day over the local radio station.


SIKESTON - Bill Pickett of the Jenkins Shoe Store is the new chairman of the retail merchants of the Chamber of Commerce. He succeeds Carter Bell. Pickett announced that five citywide promotions will be held during the coming year including a Christmas parade.

SIKESTON - The Chameleon Puppet Theater will perform American Folk Tales this week at local kindergarten and elementary schools. This event is sponsored by the Sikeston Arts and Education Council, Inc. The hour long show combines storytelling, singing and autoharp music, clog-dancing and a 35-minute play titled, "Lazy Jack and the Three Sillies."

SIKESTON - Public Works Director Doug Friend, along with Tim Williams and Ken Fowler, made a final check of the propane cannons that will be used in an effort to disperse the blackbirds that annually plague Sikeston. The dispersal effort starts at 4:15 p.m. today and continues all week. Residents are also asked to make noise in an effort to scare off the birds.


SIKESTON - Cummins Gateway presented a $20,000 check to the Make-A-

Wish Foundation Tuesday. The money, which was for the amount raised at the Cummins Gateway Make-A-Wish Golf Benefit, will be used to grant wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. The event ended with Wayne Ruesler, Dennis Polys, Chuck McGrath and Eddy Eubanks shooting for a $1 million hole-in-one.


BLOOMFIELD - Coaches pick Richland and Charleston to win the two big area Christmas tournaments.
