Speakout 12/5

Monday, December 5, 2005

I'm calling about my little dog. I live in Morehouse on Marshall Street. On November 17, someone hit her and left her for dead. I took her to the vet and she had broke her pelvis and other complications set up. On the 21st she died. It was on a Monday. I can't believe someone could hit a little dog and just drive off and leave it. It makes me wonder if it were a child if they would just drive off and leave it because they were scared. I wish whoever hit my dog would just come and tell me they were sorry for hitting her.

I'd like to speak out about the no child left behind issue. My daughter has special needs and she is so called "not up to par" with the other kids. I just want to say thank you again to Mrs. Hobeck and Mrs. Hensley and all the other staff to all the hard work and effort you put in to all the children at Sikeston Kindergarten. Thank you and God bless. Thank you so much.

I'd like to speak out to the merchants that won't advertise for Christmas. I don't shop for holiday gifts, I shop for Christmas gifts. I noticed one merchant listed their trees as holiday trees. Lots of people take their Christmas tree down a day or so after Christmas. So why do they call it a holiday tree? I just want you merchants to know that when we can longer have Christmas, don't be surprised if your sales go down, down down. Christ is the very reason we celebrate Christmas, and without Him it's nothing. What are you celebrating?

I have read the recent articles that have been called in from the people who are upset because they didn't get help from the system. Let me reply to that please. I am a divorced mother with a teenager at home. I own my own home and yes, it can be done without government help. I work two jobs to make ends meet. My teenager is also working. In our family we were all taught from a young age that if you want something, you must work for it. I never had the option of taking us to the doctor at the first sign of a sore throat or a sniffle, but somehow we survived. We learned to pray a lot and put our trust in God. I know the disappointment of being passed over for a job because you're in your forties, even with the computer class I have taken. But, I would say that I have kept an optimistic light on life and a great attitude. I feel if one door is closed there will be another opened for you. So, I would say to those to please learn to depend on yourself and not the system and take pride in yourself. Good things can happen to you. There's just something good about feeling that you have integrity in your life.
