BENTON - A traffic stop in Scott County Friday night led to the arrest of two persons on drug charges.

A Cape Girardeau couple's vehicle was stopped on State Highway 77 near Benton Friday night, according to a news release from Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter. During the stop officers discovered a controlled substance in the vehicle.

Dawonn Taylor, 26 was arrested on an existing Scott County warrant for drug sales. Also he was charged with possession of marijuana as a result of a search following the traffic stop.

A woman was also arrested for having marijuana on her and was transported to the Scott County Jail. The woman, whose name was not released by authorities, was booked and released on a summons, pending the filing of formal charges by the prosecuting attorney.

Walter said the original warrant on Taylor was the result of an undercover operation in August 2007, when Taylor is alleged to have sold crack cocaine to a Scott County undercover agent.
