Gaylord Grindstaff

SIKESTON - The Rev. Gaylord E. Grindstaff, 73, died at 10:15 p.m. July 2, 2007, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

Born June 1, 1934, in Fremont, he was the son of the the late John Elton and Laura Mae Bristol Grindstaff. He worked for 15 years for Dow Chemical Co. in Madison, Ill., and 25 years for Brown Shoe Co. in Charleston where he retired as plant superintendent. He founded Grindstaff Industries in 1991 where he worked until he became a full-time minister in 2003. He ministered at Illinois Avenue General Baptist Church in Sikeston and was a Gideon for 14 years.

On May 21, 1989, in Sikeston, he married Delores Redfering who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Sandy Grindstaff of Seattle and Tim and Kathryn Grindstaff of Mt. Juliet, Tenn.; two stepdaughters and their spouses, Christy and Tim Heacox Jaynes of Sikeston and Ashleigh and David Boggess of Russellville, Ky.; one brother, Kenneth E. Grindstaff of St. Charles; two sisters, Madean King of Shell Knob and Norma J. Grindstaff of Sikeston; and 10 grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Grindstaff; and one sister, Maxine Griffin.

Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Gary Zook, former pastor of Illinois Avenue Baptist Church, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: David Boggess, Tim Heacox Jaynes, Joe Adkisson, Jimmie Ivie, Danny Griffin, Paul Pfeifer and Ray King.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Dylan Brown, Vernon Smith, Terry Redfering and Robert Cooper.
