Charles Meunier

SIKESTON -- Charles Lloyd Meunier, 84, died at 10:57 a.m. Sept. 28, 2006, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Born Sept. 6, 1922, in Blytheville, Ark., to the late Charles Thomas and Dora Sweat Meunier, he served in the U.S. Army Infantry, Patton's 3rd Army during World War II, entering the service in November 1942. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and served in Normandy, France, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Luxembourg and Austria. He was discharged in 1945 with the rank of sergeant-rifleman and the following decorations and ribbons: Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Rifleman, Good Conduct Medal, ETO and four Bronze Battle Stars. He worked for 31 years for the International Shoe Company and was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. He was a member of the American Legion Henry Meldrum Post 114 and served in several offices there. He was a member of the VFW Post 3174 and the Sikeston Eagles Aerie 3314.

On June 1, 1963, in Jackson, he married Mae Moore who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Laura Meunier of Kelso; two daughters and sons-in-law, Valarie and Virgil Arnzen of Benton and Kimberly and Tom Miller of Sikeston; three sisters, Dorothy Meunier, Louise Meunier and Mary Vaughan all of Sikeston; three grandchildren, Nicholas Meunier of Kelso, Amy Arnzen of Chaffee and Matt Arnzen and his wife, Loretta, of Chaffee; two great-grandchildren, Grace and Tyson Arnzen both of Chaffee; and three special friends, Kyle Welter, Ryan Welter and Landon Miller all of Sikeston.

Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. today at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Church. Serving as celebrant will be Monsignor Richard Rolwing assisted by the Rev. Scott Sunnenberg.

Burial will follow at 1 p.m. with full military honors presented by the Missouri State Military Funeral Honor Guard in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Pallbearers will be: Lee Vaughan, Philip Stinnett, Randy Davidson, Mike Vaughan, Tim Merideth, James Hann and John Welter.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Wesley Stutts, Byron "Barney" Caldwell, Monroe Wheeler, Bud Stone, Bill Hodges, Roscoe Vaughan and Ale Cato.
