SACC hosts second Annual Rodeo Run on Aug. 4

I have just returned from my final session attending the Delta Regional Authority's Leadership Institute. I was honored to represent Sikeston/Miner and southeast Missouri at the Institute which is made up of representatives appointed by the governor of each of the Delta Regional Authority states.

There were two of us representing the state of Missouri and we met with the other delegates six times over the last 10 months working on various projects some of which the Chamber will be trying to implement in the future. It was hard work but a great experience that I hope will continue to improve our contacts and presence in the economic and community development arena.

The SACC staff and volunteers have now turned our focus to the Rodeo which is fast approaching and with rodeo brings our Second Annual Rodeo Run scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 4 at the Sikeston Sports Complex. Day of registration begins at 6:30 a.m. with the race starting at 7:30 a.m. The 3.1 mile course is in the Complex area and will have security for the safety of our runners and walkers. There is a one mile FUN RUN for children 12 years of age and under.

The nonrefundable entry fee is $12 per person if received by July 27 and $16 if postmarked later than July 27 and on race day. The one mile FUN RUN for children 12 years and under is $10.

Prizes will be awarded to the overall male and female finishers and medals will be awarded to the top three in each age group in the 5k. The one mile FUN RUN is noncompetitive but each participant will receive a prize.

T-shirts will be provided to all participants who register by July 27. This is a flat course and is a great opportunity for anyone who likes to run, walk, or run/walk. If you have never participated in a 5k event before but have wanted to try, this is a good one to start with because of the kind of course it is.

So drag out those walking or running shoes and sign up for this healthy- family and community event. Proceeds of the race will benefit the Justin Cowboy Crisis Fund and the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce.

And don't forget the Rodeo parade will take place after the run in the Complex beginning at 10 a.m.

For more information about the Rodeo Run or other Chamber events contact SACC at 573-471-2498 or go to our Web site at www.sikeston.net.

We hope to see you Saturday, Aug. 4, at the Sikeston Sports Complex.
