DEXTER -- James Paul Barker, 89, died Feb. 5, 2007, at the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter.

Born Nov. 16, 1917, near Bloomfield, son of the late James Abner and Mary Elizabeth Martin Barker, he was a lifelong resident of Stoddard County where he farmed for many years and worked in a variety of factory and retail jobs in Dexter. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps and later in the U.S. Army during World War II.

On May 17, 1947, in Bloomfield, he married Faustina Shell who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Richard Scholes of St. Louis; and two grandchildren, Elizabeth Bly and husband, Aaron, and Daniel Scholes of St. Louis.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Albert Barker and Alfred Barker; and two sisters, Clarissa Triplett and Anna Barker.

A private family memorial service will be conducted with burial in the Hagy Cemetery at Dexter.

Watkins and Sons Funeral Home of Dexter is in charge of arrangements.
