SIKESTON - Work of pouring the footings of the foundation for the Missouri Delta Community Hospital is to begin Thursday or Friday, according to John J. McCarty.

SIKESTON - Homecoming queen of the high school will be chosen by vote of the football squad from senior girls. Candidates for queen will ride in the motorcade around the football field Friday night and sit together in the stadium.


SIKESTON - A total of $10,600 in United Fund pledges and cash have been received during the first three weeks of the drive, Henry Bussey, chairman said today.

SIKESTON - The Missouri Conservation Commission meeting in Sikeston Friday was meant to be a hearing. However, part of it turned out more like a lynching. At issue was the controversial Army Corps of Engineers floodway plan for the area.


BENTON - The Scott County landfill near Benton was closed late last week because the county has no liability insurance for the site and apparently has had none for two years. Meanwhile, the county court is planning to meet Monday morning to seek an issuance for insurance, Commissioner Dewaine Shaffer of Chaffee said Friday.

SIKESTON - Seniors Ashley Drury and Mandy Hammock were honored when the Sikeston volleyball team defeated Puxico on Thursday. In their final home match of the season, the Lady Bulldogs won the first one 15-10, lost the second 5-15, then came back to win the third 15-13.


SIKESTON - Members and contractors for the American Cancer Society are preparing for the Gala "Autumn Splendor." The gala, one of the largest fund raisers for ACS, will be held at the home of Christy and Richard Montgomery. Entertainment for the event is "Dealers from Memphis."
