WETUMPKA, Ala. - James Edward "Punk" Avery, 72, formerly of Marston, Mo., died Feb. 21, 2008, at Baptist East Hospital in Montgomery.

Born Sept. 26, 1935, in Marston, to the late James Roland Avery and Marguerite Haubold Ragsdale, he graduated from Marston High School in 1953. He attended Arkansas State University and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife, Nita Lawson Avery, of the home.

Other survivors include: one son, Joey Avery of Wetumpka; two daughters, Jamie Takas of Conyers, Ga. and Renee Avery of Montgomery; one brother, Bob Avery of Cleveland, Miss.; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial services were conducted on Feb. 23 at Leak Memory Chapel in Montgomery with the Rev. Larry Davidson officiating.
