PORTAGEVILLE -- Laura Jane Stevens and Stephen Brian Pointer Jr. were united in marriage during a May 24, 2008, wedding at First Baptist Church in Hayti. The Rev. Jim Thomason, uncle of the bride, officiated.

The bride is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Gene Stevens of Portageville. The bridegroom is the son of Stephen Pointer Sr. of Reeds Spring and Tammy Pointer of Ponce de Leon.

Providing music for the occasion were vocalist Keith Marchbanks; guitarist Ben Stevens, brother of the bride; trumpeter Richard Thomason, cousin of the bride; pianist Terri Simpson; and organist Gary Clark.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a Maggie Sottero strapless corset-style slim A-line dress with a sweep train. It featured a lace-adorned sweetheart neckline and was embellished with Swarovski crystals, bugle beads, pearls and sequins. She carried a hand-tied bouquet of white roses, tulips, calla lilies and hydrangeas. For the bride's "something old," her bouquet included a handkerchief bonnet that she wore home from the hospital when she was born.

Maid of honor was Amy Thomason of Winchester, Tenn., cousin of the bride. Bridesmaids were DeAnna Deere of Portageville, Rebecca Gurley of Blytheville, Ark., Emily Harper of Springfield and Hannah Wright of New Albany, Miss. They wore floor-length sleeveless satin v-neck slim dresses in Victorian lilac and carried 3 calla lilies hand-tied with sheer ribbons.

Eric Pointer of Ponce de Leon served his brother as best man. Groomsmen were Bryan Franco and Trandon Groscost of Springfield, Troy Rutledge of Galena and Ben Stevens, of Deerfield, Ill. The men wore miniature calla lilies on the lapels of their classic black Tommy Hilfiger tuxedoes.

Jo Guise attended the guest register at the church.

The reception was held at the Hayti Community Center. The greeters were Jo Guise and Pat Turnage, friends of the bride. Pat Mitchell of Kennett catered the reception, and Randy Turnage, floral and wedding director, decorated the reception hall. Susie's Bake Shoppe of Sikeston made the three-tier square wedding cake. It was decorated with white icing with a floral and sparkle design and fresh roses and orchids. The bridegroom's cake was a two-tier chocolate cake with tuxedo decorated chocolate covered strawberries. The guests enjoyed refreshments, music and a slide show. Then Jim Bidewell announced the wedding party as "This Will Be" played. The couple cut the wedding cake and the bride groom's cake and greeted their guests.

After a honeymoon at Hotel Caribe in Cancun, Mexico, the new Mr. and Mrs. Pointer are making their home in Springfield.
