Frances Hammontree

EAST PRAIRIE -- Frances Louella Hammontree, 95, died at 5:20 a.m., Aug. 16, 2008, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born Feb. 17, 1913, in Guin, Ala., to the late Lewis and Rosa Franks Green, since 1962 she had lived in East Prairie where she was a member of the First Church of God. She was active in the East Prairie Nutrition Center and the East Prairie R.S.V.P. program.

On June 9, 1929, at Guin, she married Lester John Hammontree who preceded her in death on Oct. 23, 1966.

Two sons, J.D. Hammontree and R.D. Hammontree; two brothers, George Green and Jessie Green; and one sister, Lizzie Green, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include: two daughters-in-law, Elizabeth Ann Hammontree of East Prairie and Oralee Hammontree of Guin; two sisters, Annie Franks and Dessie Franks of Tifton, Ga.; and seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services were conducted today at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie. DeWayne Hammontree officiated.

Burial followed in the Dogwood Cemetery.
