SIKESTON - Mr. and Mrs. R.B. Wilford are parents of a son born Sunday afternoon at the Sikeston General Hospital. He has been named Robert Boone and is the second child, first son.

LILBOURN - Paula Dial, daughter of Billy Dial and Mrs. Dorothy Smith of Portageville, was chosen Miss New Madrid County last night at the high school auditorium.

Sept. 25, 1988

SIKESTON - United Way Blitz teams met Thursday at the Heritage House to make final plans for their day long fund raising campaign. Team members included: Delores Comer, Marietta Whitworth, Jolene Walker, Sherry Duncan, Barbara Smith, Gail Duchscherer, United Way Treasurer LaVerne Wright, Helen Sander, United Way Chairman Mark Walker, Loreda Compas, Ron Steinmetz, Ray Purvis, United Way Executive Secretary Glenna Shy, United Way Vice Chairman Lois McRill, Ellie Knight and Merideth Lee. About $7,000 was raised during Blitz Day.

Sept. 25, 1998

SIKESTON - A static wire came loose shorting out phase wires near the Sikeston Power Plant about 10:30 a.m. Thursday. The short not only knocked out power to much of the community but also ignited two fires. Fire personnel from Sikeston, along with Board of Municipal Utility workers and area fire departments assisted in extinguishing the blaze.

EAST PRAIRIE - The East Prairie Lady Eagles stomped a mud hole in the Greenville Lady Bears winning 11-1 in six innings last night.
