SMYRNA, Tenn. -- Leonard "J.L." Funkhouser Jr., 83, died Nov. 14, 2008, at his home.

Born March 3, 1925, near Dexter, Mo., to the late Leonard and Effie Jennings Funkhouser Sr., he had lived in Dexter most of his life and moved to Smyrna several years ago. He was a road foreman with Liberty Township in Stoddard County and was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during World War II.

On June 7, 1947, in Piggott, Ark., he married Doris Kathleen George who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son, Ronnie Funkhouser of Smyrna; one daughter, Connie Crocker of Murfreesboro; one grandson, Chris Crocker; and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by eight sisters, Hallie May Ward, Mable Griffin, Lula Hollett, Edna Dowdy, Ruth Keller, Pearl Dowdy, Edith White, and Hazel Snyder.

Visitation is scheduled from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Burial will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
