Dexter volleyball wins; SHS junior varsity football rolls

NAYLOR -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs softball team ended their regular season with a comeback win over the Naylor Lady Eagles on Monday afternoon, 12-9.

With two outs and two runners on in the seventh inning, Sikeston's No. 9 hitter, Kayla Fodge, knocked a 2-RBI triple to give the Lady Bulldogs the late lead.

"(Fodge) really stepped up with a hit we needed," Sikeston head coach Tiffany Morgan said. "We battled back with the bottom of our order. This was a great way for us to get ready for districts."

Sikeston had four hits in the seventh inning to help lead the comeback.

Senior Sarah Hopson earned the win on the mound while Madison Chaney gave the Lady Bulldogs two hits and Nicki James belted a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning.

Courtney Collins added to Fodge's triple with a three-bagger of her own while Katie Hines chipped in with a double.

Sikeston finishes the regular season with a 13-7 record and will play Cape Central in the first round of the Class 4, District 1 tournament on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at Jackson City Park.

Chaffee 16, Greenville 1

CHAFFEE -- The Chaffee Lady Devils quickly dispatched of the visiting Greenville Lady Bears on Monday in a 16-1 rout that last three innings.

Hannah Bedwell, Taylor Fodge and Stevie Schrum all recorded two hits for Chaffee while Haley Enderle picked up the win.

VOLLEYBALL

Dexter 2, Puxico 0

DEXTER -- The Dexter Lady Bearcats defeated Puxico on Monday in two sets, 25-20 and 25-13.

Elisha Flanigan led Dexter with 13 kills. Nine of which were in the first set. Hannah Noe added six kills while Lauren Ward chipped in 11 assists.

The Dexter junior varsity lost in two sets, 26-24 and 25-15.

JV FOOTBALL

Sikeston 44, Scott City 6

SIKESTON -- Improving to 4-2 on the season, the Sikeston junior varsity football team beat visiting Scott City, 44-6.

Darien Boyd got things started for the Bulldogs early, scoring on a 20-yard run before running in the 2-point conversion himself with 7:47 left in the first quarter.

Reaching pay dirt on two and 20-yard runs respectively, Markeith Bratcher put Sikeston up 24-0.

Making sure the game was out of reach Sikeston added two more touchdowns before the half, a 22-yard run by Chris Word and a 2-yard run by Drew Harper, to put the Bulldogs up 38-0 at the half.

Rounding out the scoring, Scott City finally got on the board with a touchdown late in the third before David Foster scored the final touchdown of the game on a 2-yard with 4:35 left in the play to make up the 44-6 final.
