DELTA -- Getting 23 points from senior Cheyanne King, the third-seeded Oran Lady Eagles defeated the sixth-seeded Woodland Lady Cardinals 71-45 Tuesday night to advance to the semifinals of the Delta New Years Tournament.

Holding a three-point lead after the first quarter, the Lady Eagles used a dominant second frame to put some room between themselves and the Lady Cardinals, going in to the half up 17 at 37-20.

Fighting to keep the game competitive, Woodland was able to turn the tide in the third, bringing themselves to within 10 points on a Kendra Pinkley basket in the paint with ten seconds left in the quarter.

Unfortunately for the Lady Cardinals, Oran's Chrissy Sauceda hit one last 3-pointer from the top of the arc as the final seconds of the third ticked down to push the Lady Eagles lead back to 13.

After the two teams did little more than swap baskets the first three minutes of the fourth, Oran was able to go on a dominant 13-point run, capped by an Addie Kielhofner basket with a minute-and-a-half left to put the game away.

"We were getting beat of the dribble too much and (Woodland) was getting in the paint," Oran head coach Adam Friga said of Woodland's third quarter comeback. "We talked about it and our guards up front made an adjustment.

"They quit letting them get inside, we did a lot better job cutting off and then we went on a run. So they did do a lot better job there. "

Oran will now take on second-seeded St. Vincent tonight at 8:30 p.m. with the winner advancing to the championship game.

With their loss, the Lady Cardinals are sent to the consolation bracket where they will face seventh-seeded Chaffee tonight at 5:30 p.m.
