Public meeting to be held to discuss Morehouse Elementary

Wednesday, April 13, 2011

SIKESTON -- The Sikeston R-6 School District has established a tentative process to address school building and budget issues for the 2011-2012 school year.

Superintendent Steve Borgsmiller met on Friday with the staff at Morehouse Elementary to tell them he would be asking the Board of Education to consider -- as part of the budget process -- mothballing the school building due to financial and academic challenges there.

Borgsmiller stressed that asking the Board to consider stopping use of the building is simply a recommendation on his part.

What will happen next, the superintendent said, is a public meeting will be scheduled.
