Numbers are up as Lady Devils seek to rebuild

CHAFFEE -- With higher numbers in recent memory and a new coach to call the plays, the Chaffee Lady Devils may be in for a rebuilding year.

"I have 19 players so far this year for varsity and jayvee," First-year head coach Darren Pruitt said. "This is an accomplishment already for the school and the program. I expect this year will be a building year."

After losing four seniors from last year's squad, the Lady Devils, who finished 4-17 last season, will look to fill the void left by their leading scorer, Randi Wiley. Simona Samseliova, Miranda Estes and Nongnaphat Thapthimthong were the remaining three seniors departing because of graduation.

Returning for Chaffee will be juniors Adrienne Eichhorn and Ellie Sigman.

"Among (the girls) are some very talented players," Pruitt said. "There are also some players who have great potential. But, because of lack of numbers in the past, some are coming back to or just beginning their high school basketball career."

Chaffee's first game will be against Scott City on Nov. 28.
