Gwendolyn Sharp
SIKESTON -- Gwendolyn Waters Sharp, age 72, passed away Feb. 3, 2012, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
She was born Aug. 12, 1939, in Wilson, N.C., to the late Lindsay and Mildred Smith Waters.
She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Florida State University in 1961 with a major in education and minor in music, married Harry G. Sharp III of Sikeston on June 30, 1962, taught grade school in North Carolina and for most of her adult life was a piano and voice teacher. A member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority and the Capitol Hill Prayer Group, she sang at the Christian Inaugural Celebration for Presidents Reagan and George H.W. Bush and sang in a number of Billy Graham crusades. In 2009, Gwendolyn moved to Sikeston where she joined the First United Methodist Church and attended the Friday Morning Prayer Group.
Gwendolyn is survived by: one son and daughter-in-law, Harry G. "Woody" and Angela Sharp IV; three grandchildren, Sarah and husband Brandon Barker, Eric Sharp and Crystal Sharp all of Sikeston; two great-grandchildren, Zoey and Lindzay Barker of Sikeston; one sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth W. and Mahlon McLean of Italy; and one nephew, Matthew Ensey.
Friends may call from 3 p.m. Thursday until time of services at 5 p.m. at the Ponder Funeral Home with the Rev. Geoff Posegate, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Cleveland Memorial Park, Boiling Springs, N.C.
