SIKESTON -- The Sikeston Bulldogs tennis team lost a close 5-4 match to Poplar Bluff on Thursday.

Sikeston got singles wins from Josh Bill, Brandon Goodwin and Wade Gadberry while the doubles team of Jimmy Hines and Layton Jones also earned a win.

"We played our best match of the year," said Sikeston coach Russ Dial. "Jimmy Hines and Layton Jones got us off to a good start in the match with a hard fought doubles win. Bill, Goodwin and Gadberry had strong singles performances. Gadberry was awesome in his all-court coverage."

With districts next week, Dial is happy to see the Bulldogs improving.

"The team is peaking none-too-soon," Dial said.

Sikeston will travel to Dexter on Monday for the team district tournament with the individual districts to be played at Potosi on Thursday.
