Jaycees preparing for annual crawfish boil, music festival

SIKESTON -- The flurry of activity at the Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo grounds isn't centered on the annual rodeo just yet. Instead, club members are preparing for the Third Annual Crawfish Boil and Music Festival on Saturday.

"Everyone seems to really love this event," said Bryce Wibbenmeyer, chairman. About 3,000 individuals have come through each of the previous years, and Jaycees are preparing for that many or more this weekend.

"We've had a lot more response than in years past," said Wibbenmeyer.

The festivities will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, and this year's event features three music acts, with the first taking the stage at 4 p.m. Each group has a tie to Sikeston as well.

Sikeston's own Anna Catherine DeHart and the Dirt Road Express will perform at 4 p.m., followed by Mac and the Travelers, with Sikeston-turned-Nashville residents Anna McReynolds and Cullen DeHart from 6 to 8 p.m and Dickey Do and the Don'ts of Mississippi, featuring Austin Marshall and Jake Curtis, originally of Sikeston, will round out the performers and take the stage at 9 p.m.
