Heat in Sikeston breaking records
SIKESTON -- It's record-breaking hot in Sikeston.
According to weather.com, the record high temperature for Sikeston was set in 1980 when the mercury climbed to 107 degrees.
In the past week, the record was matched or exceeded three times. The Sikeston Power Plant, which serves as the official recording station for the National Weather Service, reports the temperature reached 110 degrees on June 29 while on June 30 and again July 1, the thermometer topped out at 107.
Officials recording the highs at the Power Plant also saw triple digit temperatures on June 28 of 106 degrees, on Monday at 101 decrees, Tuesday's temperature was 104 degrees and 105 degrees on Thursday. On Friday, the high temperature recorded was 108 degrees.
