Longtime Charleston football coach dies
CHARLESTON -- Dan Kesselring, 51, a longtime Charleston football coach and athletic director, died Monday near Charleston.
Kesselring, who started with the Charleston School District in 1987, served two stints as the head football coach for the Bluejays from 1992-1999 and from 2007-2008. He compiled a career record of 49-55, leading Charleston to the playoffs every year from 1993-97. In 1996, the Bluejays finished 11-1, losing to Country Day in the quarterfinals 39-38. He also led Charleston to the playoffs in 2007, losing to Crystal City 29-28 in a sectional contest.
Kesselring also had served as a track and field coach, junior high football coach and athletic director. He was currently the Charleston Middle School principal.
There will be no visitation and memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Marshall Field in Charleston. Private interment will follow at a later date.
