BROSELEY -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs hit the .500 mark on the season Thursday with a 2-1 win over Twin Rivers.

After three scoreless innings, the Lady Bulldogs grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth before adding an insurance run in the fifth. The extra run proved to be the difference in the ball game as the Lady Royals rallied for a run in bottom of the seventh, but came up short in an effort to tie.

Paige Sailors picked up the win on the mound for Sikeston while Madison Chaney led the Lady Bulldogs offense going 2 for 4. Sarah Dixon and Maggie Shepherd each contributed singles to Sikeston's cause and Sailors had a double.

Now at 5-5 on the year, the Lady Bulldogs will hit the road to play a makeup game against the Kelly Lady Hawks today at 4 p.m.

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Sikeston tennis team defeated Cape Central for the first time in six season's Thursday, 5-4.

It's Sikeston second win in a row despite playing with a full roster.

"Everyone played great considering we were missing our No. 5 (player) on varsity and everyone had to play a higher ranked opponent."

Sikeston's No. 1, Kelsey Dial, swept her opponent, 8-0, Martha Neel and Ali Price won their singles matches, 8-4 and 8-6, respectively.

"Even in our losses, Janai Ivory played a close match while suffering from cramps and (Geena) Hooper played good in a tight match. I'm very pleased with the effort put forth by all today defeating a Class 2 opponent."
