DEXTER -- After falling in a tight first set against Dexter on Thursday, the Sikeston Lady Bulldogs saw their current three match win streak snapped when the Lady Bearcats rolled to a second game win to sweep the Lady Bulldogs 25-17 and 25-9.

"The second set we were playing out of system the whole time," Sikeston head coach Steve Beydler said. "We were just trying to get the third hit over the net. We weren't able to get a termination or even trying to start.

"The main difference was we couldn't get anything rolling there."

The Lady Bulldogs got the night off to a promising start when, after trailing 7-3 early in the first set, they went on a 5-2 run to close back to within a point.

Though never taking the lead, Sikeston remained in striking distance of Dexter until a 3-1 run by the Lady Bearcats forced a timeout at 18-13. Kills by Alyssa Spear and Hannah Noe after the break allowed Dexter to continue to pull away until a bad volley by Sikeston led to set-point at 24-16.

On last kill in the game from Trenice Greer gave the Lady Bulldogs some hope but an errant spike by the Lady Bulldogs on the next point sealed the set.

"The first set even though we got beat I was pleased with what I was seeing," Beydler said. "They were fighting and we had a lot of long rallies. The difference in the first game is all those long rallies is we (usually) lost the point.

"Occasionally we got one, but not very many. But we kept it going and I was really pleased."

Building on the momentum they used to close out the first set, Dexter was able come out strong in the second and made sure by mid-game that the result wasn't in question.

Taking advantage of a couple errors by Sikeston, the Lady Bearcats rolled to 6-1 lead to start the set before Noe followed up an ace by Paige Patterson with a kill to push ahead 8-1.

After dropping two of the next three points, the Lady Bulldogs burned a timeout to try and regroup, but after splitting the next points with Dexter things quickly deteriorated.

Holding their momentum, the Lady Bearcats went on to take six-straight points to pull away at 21-6 before pushing to match-point where an unreturned serve from Patterson sealed Dexter's win.

"They just proved they could play with them (in the first set) with the exception of a couple little silly things," Beydler said of his girls. "But then in the next game it was like the old team showed up real quick where you let too many long rallies get away from you and you dig a hole you can't dig out of."

Leading Sikeston's front court attack on the night, both Greer and Courtney Hewitt had five kills with Greer adding five assists to her effort. Lauren Beydler also had five assists while Kalli Williams contributed a pair of kills.

For the Lady Bearcats, Noe had a big night at the net, coming away with 11 of Dexter's 21 kills on the contest. She was also second on the team with five assists and had an ace.

Spear had a team-high 13 assists and three kills on the game and Shyann Jines led the way with 14 digs and also had four kills and a pair of aces.

"We actually got to some things tonight that we haven't been getting to," Dexter head coach Carmen Morgan said of her team. "We're working a little harder on defense. Our passing has been horrible so we still have lots of work to do.

"There's lot of things we need to do to get to the level we need to be at coming into October. That's what we're working for."

With the loss, Sikeston falls to 7-10. They'll look to rebound when they host the Portageville Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

The Lady Bearcats will host their final home game of the season this Monday when they take on the Poplar Bluff Lady Mules at 6 p.m.
