NMCC gets by Cairo, Lady Bulldogs stopped by Poplar Bluff

NEW MADRID -- The New Madrid County Central Eagles outscored Cairo, Ill., by 15 points in the second half to come away with a 73-53 win Thursday at New Madrid County Central High School.

NMCC sophomore Willie Jimerson led the Eagles with a game-high 32 points. Delontre Haney added 11.

The Eagles will host the Dexter Bearcats tonight with junior varsity action starting at 6 p.m.

RISCO -- With six players posting double-digit scoring totals, the Risco Tigers routed the Cooter Wildcats on Thursday 100-44.

Risco outscored Cooter 27-7 in the first quarter and by halftime controlled a 46-point lead.

Jordon Pavy led the way with 24 points while Caleb McCord was close behind with 23 points, including five of the team's seven 3-pointers.

Brandon Bixler and Austin White scored 14 and 12 points respectively.

Now at 8-5, the Tigers will host Holcomb tonight at 6 p.m. in their annual Homecoming game.

POPLAR BLUFF -- Unable to overcome a rough first half, the Sikeston Lady Bulldogs fell 55-36 to Poplar Bluff on Tuesday.

Poplar Bluff took a 20-6 advantage after the first quarter of play and led by 19 points at the break.

Sikeston matched the Lady Mules point-for-point in the final two quarters, but couldn't overcome their weak start.

Mikala Nichols had a team-high 14 points for the Lady Bulldogs while Erica Peet's 10 points left her second on the team.

PUXICO -- The Kelly Lady Hawks outscored the Puxico Lady Indians all four quarters on Thursday for a 66-31 win.

Kelly took a 20-11 lead after the first quarter of play and built up a 20-point advantage at the half. After leading 52-30 heading into final frame, the Lady Hawks outscored Puxico 14-1 in the final eight minutes of play to kick in the turbo-clock.

Morgan LeDure had a game-high 21 points, including six 3-pointers, to lead Kelly while Stephanie Worth contributed 18 points.

The Lady Hawks improve to 5-7 and will host Oran Tuesday at 6 p.m.

CHAFFEE -- The Chaffee Lady Red Devils rode a hot fourth quarter to a 39-30 win over visiting East Prairie on Thursday.

The two squads entered the final frame tied at 26-26 before a 6-point effort from Julia Sutterfield in the fourth helped Chaffee outscore the Lady Eagles 12-4.

Sutterfield finished with 11 points on the night to tie Adrienne Eichhorn for the team-high. Kaitlyn Shands led East Prairie with eight points.

SCOTT CITY -- The Scott County Central Bravettes kept their recent winning streak going with a 64-29 win over Scott City.

Scott Central, who has won their last five games, outscored the Lady Rams 19-3 in the first quarter and took a 13-point lead into the break. It was a dominant 26-2 run in the third frame that sealed the win for the Bravettes (9-4).

After back-back 30-plus point contest, Mikaela Blissett scored a game-high 28 points, followed by Anne Dennis with 16.

Lindsey Rendleman and Alicia Kern had eight points each for Scott City.

Sikeston 36, Jackson 27

CAPE GIRARDEAU -- In their final game of the season, the Sikeston eighth grade basketball team defeated Jackson 36-27 during the third place game of the Cape Central Invitational tournament at the Cape Central Junior High.

"It was a good way to end the season," Sikeston coach Derek James said. "We played our best basketball of the season in the first half tonight. We had some ups and downs, but the boys played hard all year. We showed a lot of improvement as the season progressed."

Sikeston, who finished the season 5-8, went ahead early after outscoring Jackson 13-1 in the first quarter.

Phayzun Fobbs led Sikeston with 14 points. Deshawn Aldridge was second on the team with eight points.

"If the guys keep working hard and get in the gym, I think we'll see good things out of this group in the future," said James."
