Glenn Harper
SIKESTON -- Glenn C. Harper, 92, died Jan. 17, 2013, at the Missouri State Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
Born Nov. 18, 1920, in Sikeston, to the late Hulbert H. and Cora May Ford Harper, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a 1941 graduate of Sikeston High School and in 1950 received his bachelor of science degree in education from Southeast Missouri State University. He received his master's degree in physical education and biology from New Mexico Highlands University. He taught and coached track and football in Mercedes, Texas, and Boron, Calif., and later taught and coached junior high track for Sikeston Public Schools, retiring after 18 years. Following retirement, he participated in many foot races including National Senior Olympics in St. Louis, placing third in the state 800-meter run, which qualified him for the Syracuse, N.Y., race. He was the winner of the Road Runner Award in 2000, sponsored by the Cape Girardeau Road Runners. He was a member of the Missouri Retired Teachers Association and the First United Methodist Church in Sikeston.
Numerous nephews and nieces survive.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of the funeral service at noon Thursday at the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Geoff Posegate, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will follow in Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
